IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR MADISON METRO ROUTE #3 RIDERS!!!
Madison Metro is proposing to eliminate the #3 bus stop at the corner of MLK Jr Blvd and Wilson Street. Buses would instead drive up King Street. You can read all about the proposal on the following Madison Metro page:
https://www.cityofmadison.com/metro/routes-schedules/public-hearing-scheduled/route-3
The logic of this plan is that it will help the #3 buses reach the transfer points on time with greater regularity. However, this will negatively impact hundreds of bus riders who work in the immediate vicinity of the current bus stop. This includes workers at large buildings such as the Madison Municipal Building, the City County Building, the WI Department of Health Services, the WI Department of Administration, the Hilton Hotel, and several others.
The timing of bus schedules already varies depending on the time of day - i.e. buses are allotted more time between stops during rush hour than they are when traffic is lighter. If the intent is to ensure that rush hour buses run on time, then the easy solution is not to alienate hundreds of existing riders. Rather, Madison Metro should simply follow its own existing protocol for this situation - i.e. update the #3 schedule during the times in question and allow a few extra minutes for these rush-hour buses to reach the transfer point.
